| I wish was one of those über trendy girls who possess the ability to flawlessly combine several accessory pieces and look fabulous, but this is certainly just not the case with me. In reality I am extremely picky when it comes to accessories and often worry that my combinations of various jewelry pieces do not match, neglects to flow with the rest of an ensemble, or simply looks overdone. I admire the girls that grab a necklace, stacks of bracelets and bangles, and polish off the look with a pair of flashy earrings and look trendy and well put-together wearing it all. Alternatively, I invest in a few pieces (that perhaps are not necessarily the trendiest) that are wearable and versatile. This necklace, bracelet, ring, pair of earrings, belt, brooch, scarf, or purse can potentially have the ability to add that little bit of spice, that little something extra to complete my outfit. If I happen to be perusing the stores, I am consistently on the look out for items that happened to catch my eye that could be easily coordinated with my clothes. Lately, I have been going through a muted-gold stint because I love the subtlety of the color. I also appreciate the versatility of two-toned (gold and silver, or even copper variations) jewelry pieces that I have been spotting in stores. It is extremely convenient, not being restricted to wearing all gold or all silver when opting for two-toned jewelry. I also have a tendency to be drawn to anything with turquoise; I adore the colorful element it adds to any outfit. Some items that I am especially on the look out for this holiday season are some all-around cute and wearable statement necklaces, cute loose knit-caps or berets (that are not too constricting and scrunch up my long hair), and earrings. I tend to dress with more simplicity and I think it would be fun for the holidays to really step outside of the box and really add some zing to my look. Furthermore, adding accessories to your look could potentially be a cost effective way of changing your look and spicing up your wardrobe. Although there are definitely exorbitant and beautifully tempting jewelry options out there, it is very well possible to find less expensive alternatives that are just as beautiful. Style tip of the Week: You do not have to wear what is trendy, I most certainly do not. I know what clothes and accessories I prefer and I go with it. The epitome of personal style is adapting to fashion in your own way and wearing what makes you comfortable. |

This past weekend I proactively stepped into my overstuffed closet and decided to take inventory of my wardrobe. I often peruse my closet , especially in its deep recesses, too remind myself of what I currently have stocked which makes the process of throwing together an outfit much easier. Frankly I was surprised that I am still able to step into my closet, but I digress. I think its especially important during these difficult economic times to make the most of what you have. As the fall weather is upon us, I wanted to take some time to incorporate various items from the spring and summer into a few of my fall outfits, and take note of items I may “need” in order to winterize my look. In any case, we are fortunate in Southern California to where we are able to wear certain summer and spring items in the cooler months. Being the girly girl that I am, I live in dresses. I especially enjoy putting a fall twist on the spring and summer dresses that riddle my closet. One way to do this pair a fun summer dress with tights. I love the plethora of tights in varying patterns, colors, and textures that have appeared in stores and boutiques recently. This pairing can also be taken from day to night with relative ease. For example, for a day look pair a dress with patterned tights, top off with a cardigan and a cute pair of flats. For a night out with the girls or a hot date, pair the dress with a fun a pair of tights and either a peep toe or close-toed pair of heels. To complete this look, I usually grab a blazer, so I do not catch a cold, and accessorize with some bangles and/or a statement necklace. And for that extra chill, I like to finish the look off with a nice scarf.
Another way I like putting my summer and spring pieces to good use, is by dressing in layers. As mentioned in last week’s style tip, the key is layering. With the sporadic unpredictability of Southern California weather, often it is difficult to gauge what type of clothes to wear and one way I like to remedy this is by dressing in layers. I usually start off with a tank, camisole, or even fitted long sleeve under one of the summer blouses. I then cover up with either a chunky knit sweater or fitted jacket. Style tip of the week: Do you have certain items in your wardrobe that you do not really wear that often because they do not necessarily fit perfectly? I take almost every jacket and every pair of pants to the tailor so that clothes fit exactly as I like and I am more likely to wear it, thus getting more bang for my buck.
