The Council for Teaching Filipino Language and Culture (CTFLC) Officers, Sally Idos, President, Christie Dumaran, Founder and Board Member, Ador Idos, Board Member/Adviser presented the San Diego Model Program of Filipino Language as a Global Language at the WCCI 14th World Conference at the University of Pecs, Hungary on July 11-17, 2010. The City of Pecs is the 2010 European Capital of Culture which is rich in history and socio-cultural and educational opportunities.

| 2nd Annual National City Chamber of Commerce Foundation Golf Tournament |
NATIONAL CITY, Calif. – Monday, September 13th, 2010, marks the 2nd Annual National City Chamber of Commerce Foundation Golf Tournament. The Tournament is held in as a tribute to Mayor Kile Morgan and raises funds toward community and economic development projects in National City.
One year ago, the National City Chamber of Commerce held its first annual Golf Tournament in memory of Mayor Kile Morgan. Mayor Morgan was not only a long term Mayor but was also an epic civic leader who was instrumental in the Chamber’s development and was greatly responsible for building the Chamber's beautiful new facility located at 901 National City Blvd. He was also recognized as one of the founders of the Mile of Cars. Thanks to a groundswell of support from the Morgan family, City officials (especially Mayor Ron Morrison and Councilman Jess Van Deventer) and other community leaders as well as interested citizens, the tournament raised enough money to retire the debt on the Chamber building.

| Panel approves Tani Cantil-Sakauye's nomination for chief justice of California high court |

A state commission Wednesday unanimously approved the nomination of Tani Cantil-Sakauye as the next chief justice of California, a critical step in making the appeals court justice the first nonwhite to head the state high court and California's sprawling court system.
The Commission on Judicial Appointments, headed by Chief Justice Ronald M. George, who is retiring next year, will hear testimony at a public hearing on whether Cantil-Sakauye is suited for the job. A state bar evaluation committee gave her the bar's highest rating.
Cantil-Sakauye, 50, a Filipina American, is a moderate Republican who began her legal career as a Sacramento prosecutor, worked on legal and legislative matters in the George Deukmejian administration and moved by Republican appointment up the judicial ranks to the state Court of Appeals in Sacramento.
She would face voters unopposed in November for a confirmation vote. If approved, as expected, she would replace
George in January.

| Miss Philippines California 2010 |

SAN DIEGO, Calif.
This week, Filipinos around the globe gathered to cheer on Binibining Pilipinas Universe, Venus Raj, as she represented our native country with admirable grace and charisma, ultimately making it to the Top Five in the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas. Today (Aug. 28), at 1 p.m., a local crowd will gather at Our Lady of Sacred Heart School in San Diego to witness Filipino-American beauties vie for the title of Miss Philippines of California.
“When you sign up for the job, you become a role model,” says competition-founder Cheryl Daen to seven hopeful faces seated in a circle around her. “You have to ask yourself, ‘Am I really ready to be Miss Philippines of California?’ because we are ready to make this the most exciting year of your life!” Daen is a former Miss Philippines of San Diego and was also the first Filipino-American Miss San Diego America. Together, she and competition producer, Tiffany Hernandez, are co CEOs who have created this volunteer-based community organization with a mission to celebrate the accomplishments of young women in the state of California clarifying, “This is not a popularity contest, a beauty contest, or a fundraising contest.”
Earlier this year, a committee began their search for the first-ever Miss Philippines of California National. Lea Manalo, 22, of Long Beach, came upon the details of the competition via a friend’s Facebook status update. Manalo, who has previously competed in pageants such as Miss Long Beach and Miss Southern California, says she was drawn to this particular competition because of its unique message.

For starters, try heading out to your local farmers’ market —you’ll be surprised with what you find.
San Diego County offers free farmers’ markets every day of the week. One fun local market to check out is the Otay Ranch Certified Farmers' Market at the Otay Ranch Town Center in Chula Vista. The market is held in the middle of the Town Center every Tuesday from 4-8 p.m (until 7 p.m. in the winter).
Verna Cortez, a former Chula Vista resident, still attends the Otay Ranch Farmers’ Market every Tuesday.
“I live in Spring Valley now but I still come here just about every week,” she said.”
