FilAmFest call for scholarship applicants, vendors, volunteers, sponsors and entertainment!
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – This year’s Filipino American Arts and Culture Festival, better known as FilAmFest, is taking place on October 2, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Paradise Valley Rd. between Woodman st. & Gilmartin ave. The festival attracted 15,000 people in 2009 and this year we are expecting an even larger number of people for this fun-filled, family-friendly cultural celebration. This year’s theme is “Celebrating the Bayanihan Spirit” and the FilAmFest Organizing Committee (FAFOC) is inviting the public to participate by applying online for scholarships, vendors, volunteers, and entertainment at www.filamfest.org.

2009 was the first year for the FilAmFest scholarship program and seven outstanding students were awarded scholarships totaling $2000. This year the FilAmFest scholarship application has moved online. All applicants must have at least a 2.5 grade point average, provide a letter of recommendation, answer a short essay question, and be accepted or enrolled in an accredited college or university or enrolled in high school. Apply online at www.FilAmFest.org.

For vendors, there is an early bird special, or “Balut Special”. All applications received before September 8 will get the lower price. Vendor fees begin to go up as the festival date comes closer. See the date deadlines on the online vendor application.

Volunteers must be 16 or older to participate in promotional marketing events; however, people of all ages can volunteer on the day of FilAmFest with their organization or group or volunteer individually. Volunteers under 18 may need to fill out parent permission form. Final deadline to sign up as a volunteer is Saturday, September 11.

If you are interested in performing at FilAmFest you can fill out a performer application online. Or send your media packet and contact info to FilAmFest P.O. Box 741024 San Diego, CA 92174, mark attention Entertainment Committee. Selected acts will be notified by September.

The FilAmFest is made possible by the financial support and services from our sponsors such as Barona Casino, Councilmember Tony Young of District 4, Kalusugan Community Services, and the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, the City of San Diego, County of San Diego, and Comerica Bank. Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
