Casting Call for Teatro Angeleno’s “Hombre” PDF Print E-mail

LOS ANGELES, Calif.– Teatro Angeleno announces its casting call for “Hombre,” a tragicomedy about a gay man’s heartbreak on the eve of his boyfriend’s wedding.

The characters are Adrian, 45, a latent homosexual who provides for all his live-in lover’s needs; Bing, 25, the handsome engineer boyfriend who’s severing the relationship; Nick, 40, compassionate gay boarding house neighbor; Ruben, 30, gay bank supervisor always on overtime to spend for his men; Chito, 25, loud-mouth gay komiks writer freeloader; Jimmy, 35, gay friend fond of teenage males; and Larry, goodlooking pickup boy.

Philippine Educational Theatre Association (PETA) playwright Manuel G. Asuncion wrote teleplays for Lino Brocka, the screenplay “Kahit ang Mundo’y Magunaw” for Manuel Cinco, and plays “Pabrika,” “Mandaragat” and “Bayan Mo, Bayan Ko” for the University of Life’s Dulaang Bayan.  He migrated to Australia in 1984, where he became artistic director of Dulaang Bayan Melbourne.  “Hombre” will be twinbilled with Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero’s “Three Rats,” both premiering in Los Angeles in April.  Artistic director Johnny Jose Cruz translated the script in Taglish and is directing the production.

Full of things that have never been.

SAN DIEGO, Calif.– “It’s a recession when your neighbor loses his job,” President Harry Truman once observed, “and it’s a depression when you lose your own.” As downturns in the global economy disturb more and more households, we begin to question seriously the financial yardstick by which we have been measuring our personal net worth and therefore our happiness.

An old year has completed its course

HOUSTON, Tex.– An old year – 2008 - has almost completed its course. A new year – 2009 - is smiling at us with twelve months of the unknown. An entire ocean of possibilities, including both sun-drenched days and a few storms with howling winds and giant waves, stretch out across the uncharted waters. If we let ourselves, we could become so afraid of the potential dangers, so safety conscious, we would miss the adventure.
